About me

I breed Lagotto Romagnolo

My background

My name is Yulia and I live with my family near Munich. As a child I was very interested in dogs, especially the terrier breed. I read a lot of books about dogs and visited dog shows. I also wanted to study veterinary medicine. I always dreamed of having my own dog.

My start with the first dog

In 2020 we decided to look for a family dog that was also suitable for children with allergies. I immediately remembered the special appearance of the Bedlington Terrier, which I had in mind from my childhood. So we welcomed the Bedlington Terrier male Theo into our family. With him we started to visit our first dog (breeding) shows and take part in various dog training courses. It was very exciting and eventful.

The Search for the 2nd Dog

In the summer of 2022, we were looking for a second dog with beautiful curls, again for children with allergies. That's how I came across the Lagotto Romagnolo breed during my research on the Internet. I was immediately drawn to the appearance of this fascinating breed and the character descriptions.

Taschi joins as 2nd dog

So we took the puppy Taschi into our pack and immediately took her into our hearts. With both dogs, everything in our lives changed. Now dog training, exhibitions, seminars, health checks and breeding shows determine our lives. We are particularly fascinated by truffle hunting training.

This is how the dream of breeding was born.

Lagotto Romagnolo

Hunters of Underground Treasures

The Origin

The charming Italian was originally used as a water retriever in the swampy valleys of Comacchio and the lagoons of Ravenna, which is why it is still known today as the "Italian water dog". Over the centuries, the swamps were drained. But the Lagotto was rediscovered as a truffle-hunting dog in Romagna. This is how the change from water dog to truffle dog took place.

short description

Visually, the Lagotto Romagnolo is a compact to medium-sized dog with a rustic appearance. The coat is densely curly. It is strong and squarely built. Its expression is alert, intelligent and lively. The breed loves to swim and dig, and not just when searching for truffles.

Size: Males 43 - 48 cm, females 41 - 46 cm

Weight: Males 13 - 16 kg, females 11 - 14 kg

When properly occupied, the Lagotto Romagnolo is:

Obedient, undemanding, bright, kind, loyal, child-friendly and easy to train.

Care instructions

The Lagotto Romagnolo does not shed hair, so it must be clipped and brushed from time to time to prevent its fur from matting. You also have to make sure that no awns, burrs or grass seeds get caught in its fur. No Lagotto will stop at a mud puddle and will roll around in the dirt if given the opportunity. Regular washing is an automatic part of this.

Particular attention is paid to the care of the ears, which must be plucked regularly.

My hobby breeding

I am planning the first litter in January 2025.

Health and a healthy nature are my top priority in my hobby breeding. My dog has been tested for HD and all other breed-specific diseases and is free, i.e. completely healthy. Her suitability for breeding was confirmed at a breeding show in 2024. She is also a beautiful representative of her breed.

When looking for a stud dog, I make sure that the stud dog has also successfully completed all health examinations and has a calm and balanced nature. Of course, I also pay attention to genetics when mating. I have also prepared myself for hobby breeding by reading relevant specialist literature and attending breeding seminars. I am a member of LRWD eV and breed under their supervision. The breeding supervisor recognized by LRWD eV visited our breeding facility and was completely satisfied.
